The 9th Japan-Korea Joint Workshop on Algorithms and Computation July 4-5, 2006 Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan OBJECTIVES The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers working on algorithms and the theory of computation, to promote the exchange of recent results, to foster new collaborations among researchers. Historically, the workshop has established for the purpose of collaboration of researchers of Japan and Korea; however, participation from any country is welcome. The workshop is sponsored by a research project entitled "New Horizons in Computing" (supported by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Priority Areas of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan) in cooperation with the Special Interest Group on Theoretical Computer Science (SIGTCS) of Korean Information Society, the Technical Committee on Computation (COMP) of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, and the Special Interest Group on Algorithms (SIGAL) of the Information Processing Society of Japan. TOPICS INCLUDE - Automata, languages and computability - Algorithms (combinatorial/graph/geometric/randomized) - VLSI and parallel algorithms - Networks and distributed algorithms - Learning theory and data mining - Number theory and cryptography - Graph drawing and visualization - Computational logic - Combinatorics and optimization INVITED SPEAKERS TBA PROGRAM COMMITTEE Hiroki Arimura (Hokkaido University, Japan) Hwan-Gue Cho (Pusan National University, Korea) Tomio Hirata (Nagoya University, Japan) Seokhee Hong (University of Sydney, Australia) Takeshi Koshiba (Saitama University, Japan) Shuichi Miyazaki (Kyoto University, Japan) Koji Nonobe (Hosei University, Japan) Jung-Heum Park (Catholic University of Korea, Korea) Shunji Umetani (The University of Electro-Communications, Japan) Mutsunori Yagiura (Nagoya University, Japan) ORGANIZING COMMITTEE Hyeong-Seok Lim (Chonnam National University, Korea) Hiroshi Nagamochi (Chair, Kyoto University, Japan) Osamu Watanabe (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan) Tae-Cheon Yang (Kyungsung University, Korea) SUBMISSION OF PAPERS Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts of their papers (or the full paper itself) via e-mail to the address Prof. Shunji Umetani The University of Electro-Communications, Japan umetani@se.uec.ac.jp containing a PDF file (A4, 4-8 pages) in the format as described in the sample LaTeX file available from http://www-or.amp.i.kyoto-u.ac.jp/waac06/waac06.tex Deadline of the submission is May 28, 2006. The authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by June 1, 2006. The submitted extended abstract is directly used for the proceedings volume of this symposium, if it is accepted, and *** there is no chance of revision or correction. *** The authors are therefore requested to prepare the extended abstracts very carefully. We expect that most participants will submit full version of their papers to some journals, independently of this symposium. Location of SYMPOSIUM SITE The symposium will be held at Centennial Hall, which is located at Sapporo Campus, Hokkaido University (see no. 5 on Campus Map http://www.hokudai.ac.jp/bureau/e/index-e.html). REGISTRATION Registration information will be given in our web page later.
